The Amsterdam corpus — the quick facts, the gable stones, the Discover stories and their translations — was researched and written for this business. This page says what we claim over it, and, just as deliberately, what we do not.

The wording is ours

The wording is ours. The prose, the translations into every language we publish, and the selection and arrangement of the corpus are original work and are protected by copyright.

The facts are not

The underlying facts are not ours and we claim nothing over them. A date, an address, a measurement or an inscription belongs to nobody; anyone is free to research the same subject and write their own account of it.

Some of it is not ours to license

Some of the material is not ours to license. Facts credited to Onno W. Boers, to the Vereniging Vrienden van Amsterdamse Gevelstenen, or to any archive remain with their authors, and photographs carry the licence named in their credit line.

Quoting is welcome

Quoting is welcome. Take a passage with attribution to Current Cruises Amsterdam and a link back, and you need no further permission. What we object to is republication of the corpus, or a substantial part of it, as if it were someone else’s work.

Text and data mining

Mining the researched corpus for AI training is reserved under article 4 of the EU DSM Directive. The reservation is published in machine-readable form at /.well-known/tdmrep.json and mirrored in robots.txt. Our tours, prices and FAQ are not reserved — being known as a canal tour in Amsterdam is something we are glad to have repeated anywhere.

If you think we got something wrong

The corpus cites its sources and says so when they disagree with each other. If you hold rights in something we have quoted, or you have found an error, write to us and we will correct or remove it.
